What are these dolls?
They are Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls (ABJD), commonly known as BJDs, sculpted and sold by many different companies mostly in South Korea and China. They're made of high quality polyurethane resin, strung together with elastic and have ball-based joints.
BJDs are highly customizable; you can change their eyes, wigs, clothes and makeup, give them tattoos and piercings, and mod them in many different ways. Some companies also offer extra parts, such as hands, high heel feet, sleeping faces or different face expression, fantasy parts.. The possibilities are endless. Each doll can be made to look unique, even if they are the same sculpt.
To know more about BJDs, check out the Wikipedia article and Den of Angels.
Do you make them?
No, I buy them from companies that make them. Most of my dolls are painted or customized by me, but I haven't actually made them.
How big are they?
These dolls come in a variety of sizes, ranging from about 8cm to 90cm+. Atm my smallest doll is 12cm and the biggest 78cm.
Where do you get them?
There are many doll companies to choose from. Here is a pretty good list of existing companies :3 (My BJDs are from: Soom, Iplehouse, Fairyland, Withdoll, Peakswoods, Piposdoll, Loongsoul)
How much do they cost?
One doll can cost anything from $100 to thousands, depending on its size, manufacturer, availability, etc. Limited dolls tend to be more expensive, especially on the second-hand market. Faceup, eyes, wigs, clothes and other accessories will cost extra unless you buy a ”fullset” doll which usually comes with everything needed.
They're expensive! Why would you spend so much on a DOLL?
Because I want to. I really enjoy this hobby and the artistic possibilities in it; character design, painting, photography, writing/roleplaying, sewing, etc. Some people like to spend their money on drinking/travelling/clothes/makeup/whatever, it's my choice to spend my money on dolls. Each to their own. And nope, I am nowhere near rich. I simply work hard and save up to afford each doll and their stuff.
Where do you get your dolls' clothes/wigs/eyes/accessories?
Some things have been bought from different doll companies or second-hand from other BJD owners, I've gathered stuff over time so they're not from one place particular. Most clothing I have customized or completely made myself and my dear partner makes the most lovely accessories ♥
Did you paint your dolls?
Most of them, yes. Sarqq has also helped me out a lot <3
Can I buy your doll?
No, none of my dolls are for sale unless otherwise stated! These are not just random ”toys” to me that I could get rid of just like that, they're almost like a family.
